Exhibition centre of Nuo Fan Chang Sha
Currently in our knowledge-based society, the strikingly rising of the Internet Empire, the integrative development of mobile technology and innovation process for all has stimulated a novelty office forming with the theme of intelligence. Taking the "all-intelligent office space" as a starting point, architects’ main purpose for the interior design and layout is to capture the sense of modern and technology, pursuing an environmental friendly, intelligent art space design. The design applied simplified elements to achieve its style uniformity. By defining white as the primary hue, along with the warm color block of bamboo and wood, an intelligent environmentally friendly, smart, efficient theme has been reached.
'THREE CENTERS' IN CHANGDE
Three Centers are located within Changde White Horse Lake Culture Park with Liuye Thoroughfare to the south and White Horse Lake to the south. It covers a floorage of around 38000 square meters including 11500 square meters for Science and Technology Exhibition Hall, 8000 square meters of Pavilion for Women and Children and 9000 square meters for Youth Center. The three centers are independent and fused into one, which constitute another landmark building in West City Center and a comprehensive square for youngsters, women and children in Changde. With ‘harmonious melody of dream and technology’ as the designing theme and running through the clue of science ----society----dream, the whole building adheres to people-centeredness and revolves incessant pursuit of science and technology to learn and simulate various social activities, functions and skills and exhibit all layers of features in Changde and interactive games. By mixing ‘scenarios’ into the theme space, it forges an experience, ecological and technological three centers ‘exclusive to Changde and imposing deep impression on audience’.
The term,“TAI CHI”, originates from “ZHOUYI”, it is the most important philosophical thinking in Chinese traditional culture. TAI CHI stands for the Status of Order in the universe. With regard to various natural phenomenon, after a long time of observation, Chinese ancients have recognized that everything in the universe is Opposition against Integration, therefore, two words, “Yin” and “Yang”, have been used to generalize them. It means, everything and every phenomenon in universe includes “Yin” and “Yang”, as well as two aspects of Appearance and Cultivation, they also stand for “The Sky” and “ The Earth”. The relationship between those two words is In Opposition To Each Other but Mutual and Harmonious Existence; this is the law for the material world; and it is also the summary and origin for many things. TAI CHI BOXING “TAI CHI BOXING” is the great combination of Chinese philosophic thinking and martial art. TAI CHI BOXING utilizes the theory of “Tai Chi”, it is “Invisible”. This kind of exercise form is with gentle and slow body movement in order to cultivate oneself, to seek the human body harmony, to seek the harmony between human being and nature, and to seek the harmony between individual and society, therefore; the combination of human being and nature is pursued, further, “The Union of Human Being and Nature ” is achieved. From “Invisible” To “Visible” “TAI CHI”, we can say, is a kind of thinking, a sort of philosophy, it is “invisible”.“TAI CHI BOXING” is a kind of exercise. We can see its force and beauty; so it is “visible”. The famous sculptor in Taiwan, Mr. Juming, has created a series of masterpieces named “TAI CHI” that fully expressing the strength and esthetics of TAI CHI BOXING. In these masterpieces, each movement such as raising one’s hand, lifting one’s foot, standing or kicking, they all perfectly present the essence and elegant rhyme of TAI CHI BOXING. Architectural design: 1. There are two blocks in façade design; one is dark color, the other is light color; they stand for two elements that are “Yin” and “Yang” of Tai Chi respectively. These two blocks are In Opposition To Each Other but Mutual and Harmonious Existence, and they are integrated to become a complete one. 2. In the meantime, we adopt clean and tidy lines and three dimensional cutting of sculpture technique with the esthetics concept from the works (TAI CHI) of Mr. Juming, and all of these elements are integrated into architectural design. Hence, the clean and tidy lines can form the block with strong three dimensional effect; moreover, the movement of raising one’s hand, lifting one’s foot or kicking expresses the strength and esthetics of ” TAI CHI” works.
Chongqing Planning Exhibition Gallery
The design ultimately aims to transform the old pavilion into an exhibition space indicating “urban characteristics”, inherit and extend urban culture and space in a deeper level and create a “people oriented” public space. Hereinafter, we design the exhibition space in depth from six aspects: Monocyclic independent stream lines With respect to the design streamline, we are extremely considerate as we have created a monocyclic browsing mode that enables people to browse the core information while gives them rights to select on their own. Simple but not plain ba lanced colors For the spatial color, considering the height of building storey the design chooses the simple white color as the dominant hue which can effectively brighten the space. Besides, the dark grey floor and local black top surface visually further reinforce the exhibition design of the wall. In some exhibition areas, the comprehensive and warm wood color is appropriately intermixed according to the exhibition content. Modern interpretation of environmental protection ma terials To choose materials, the design lays emphasis on nature and uses natural and ecological environmental protection materials including wood, beach stone and plaster with natural texture. The warmth and sincerity of the wood integrate with the cold feeling of the stone which fills the environment with the balance containing opposition. The surface made of the plaster has agile but soft edges and corners which make the environment instantly display natural quietness and freshness. Maximum application of exhibition space The exhibition hall expressed itself silently through every inch of the space. To use the space efficiently and follow the principle of “maximum application”, the design scientifically and accurately measures the width and length of all walls. As a result, there will be more available space for the exhibition, the streamline will be much smoother and the vision will be wider. Taking full advantages of all available space and walls to make exhibition arrangement can enrich the exhibition. Some space will be developed as the viewing platform, on which visitors can have a better conversation with the nature while they are looking around. Express local elements distinctively The design concept of the exhibition hall comes from all moments of urban lives. The joy of design lies in capturing characteristics of the city in the design process. For the design of Chongqing Planning Exhibition Gallery, our design emphasizes to integrate natural features of landscape, natural features of Chongqing and urban features and characteristics into the exhibition. We strive for the integration between space and art, between technology and humanity as well as between design and local conditions. Integrate content with technology Stepping into the lobby, the visitor will see a background wall depicting the first impression of the city through the feature of the city corner at the intersection of Yangtze River and Jialing River which reveals the spirit of Chongqing as an open city. The top surface creates an ever-changing “urban eyes” by integrating such altitudes as mountains which make the visitor feel like standing inside the city and looking up to the sky. For the side view, visitors can gradually understand the national and local orientation of city planning as they will be guided by the artistic lamp belt designed with the inspiration originating from altitude modules including artistry and the intersection of Yangtze River and Jialing River.
Blue Ink Stone
In 2011 the masterpiece "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" and remnant paper "Remain Mountain Figure" exhibited together in Taiwan after 360 years of separation. This great event inspired the entrepreneur Mr Ping and the architect Tsungjen Lin deeply and facilitated their cultural tour to complete a renovation project of transforming an old warehouse into private club "Blue Ink Stone" in Shanghai. The spatial concept was designed with the theme of "ink stone"——imaging an inkwell was implanted in space and the pool sides were shaped according to " Fuchun Mountains", which writes an abstract and pure eternal charm and completes an natural experience in the building. It tries to magnify the "four treasures of Chinese study", to make the ink stone carry more thinking power, and to regenerate the old house with a new soul. This building inspired a blend of the contemporary and antique, practicality and elegance, east and west. People can appreciate water falling sound at outside Crushed Stone Sea; can sip tea, red book, play chess or chat with friends around table inside; what is more, the ink stone can provide the foot bath; and the rainwater pond instead of roof of physical space in corner caused an amazing illusion . With fluid movement layout, it explores the equilibrium of art value from secular vision, experiencing the taste of life and the implication of the pleasure. The creation started by landscape artistic conception, and extended with studying traditional architectural context. Rebuilding materials select white wall and black tiles, blue stone and white shell, and raw wood and black ink, which renewed space with spiritual flavor and attaching new humanities taste. With the consideration of creativity and persistence, free fluid form designed for the bar and Ink-stone recreational area, challenges the construction method and also meets the demand of the function. Designer and craftsmen supplement each other taking advantage of the technology combined with digital crafted to accomplish this experimental project, and a perfect balance is found out between flow curve and vertical wooden house. In a certain sense, "Blue Ink Stone" also leads Chinese craftsmen to contact the traditional process and meanwhile evolves technology development. Besides, the design developed from small to big and back to small again deriving out industrial product design, a kind of modern three-dimensional landscape artifacts—— " Golden Hill Ashtray". This keepsake adopts the brief and smooth style, bears scholar hermit spirit, and possesses elegant and popular character as a new contemporary cultural illation. "Blue Ink Stone" creates a hidden place for spirit in the busy city. By renovating the old buildings and implanting landscape conception, it shapes a new human life space, inherits the heritage of the Chinese culture, and realizes real-life aesthetics.
The Powerful Curve
The design is inspired by the tensional curve of the sports car. This curve is applied to the ground and awning. The smooth curve makes the spatial vision extended. About the style of the wall, the gem cutting technique is used for reference. The match of black and grey makes the space shows the rhythm of passion. The designer makes full use of the comparisons between thick and thin lines, small and big chunks, light and heavy colors, and cold and warm lights as well as other techniques of visual communication, so that the space looks bigger than its realsize, shows the well arranged layers and indicates the deep and intangible feeling.
Mark of The Times-Shanghai 11 Art Gallery
The dominant hue is grey at different levels of color gradation. At the entrance, there is the grey-white marble wall painted with logo and grey-scale red vertical columns as spatial cueing. The atrium is raised high to arrange the main booth and structural models, which refurnishes the space with the technique of alternative three-dimensional composition. The window lighting in a high position of the old mill workshop is retained; directional lighting is adopted in a low position; besides, in order to secure bi-level good exposure and lighting uniformity of the No.3 Exhibition Area, the vertical wall with the translucent membrane is retained in the initial reconstruction. For infrared radiation may make exhibits drying, deformation, crack, etc., materials absorbing UV rays are used for the wall. The daylight fluorescent lamp with the most natural revivification is installed as the light source. Wall color applies grey-scale off-white. Adjust vision difference of visitors and keep the wall backward in the visual adaptive range of visitors to display artworks to the greatest extent. Cement terrace of the old mill workshop is renovated to restore the original color and is done zonal color separation according to visiting routes in exhibition areas.
