Today, in combining technical and conceptual expertise with the creativity of contemporary designers, Vitra seeks to continue pushing the boundaries of the design discipline.

Vitra는 훌륭한 디자이너와 함께 혁신적인 제품을 창조하는 것을 목표로 한다. 스위스의 공공 영역뿐 아니라 개인 사용자들의 생활과 업무에 영감을 주는 공간을 건설하기 위해 전 세계 각지에서 활약하고 있다. 스위스의 작은 비품 상점을 인수해 1950년 Willi Fehlbaum과 아내 Erika Fehlbaum이 독일에서 Vitra를 정식 설립했다. 1977년 아들 Rolf Fehlbaum이 경영권을 승계 받은 뒤 현재까지 브랜드의 명예 회장이자 이사회의 회원으로 활동하고 있다. 디자이너 Charles & Ray Eames와 George Nelson의 철학을 바탕으로 20세기 디자인을 대표하는 Vitra는 오늘날 가구 분야의 기술 및 전문 지식을 현시대 디자이너의 독창성과 결합함으로써 새로운 브랜드 역사를 써내려가고 있다. 특히 브랜드 고유의 사고방식을 계승한 협업 디자이너들은 유행을 쫓기보다 제품의 내구성과 수명을 강조하고 있다. 제품 전체의 수명 주기를 고려해 리사이클링이 가능하도록 설계하며, Vitra Circle Store에서 중고 제품을 재구매하거나 복원·판매하는 캠페인을 진행한다. 이런 생산 노하우와 산업적 지식은 작가의 예술적 자유와 만나 인간의 생활 및 작업 환경에 부가가치와 풍요를 불러일으킨다. 80년 역사의 Vitra는 고객과 직원, 디자이너 등과 끈끈한 관계를 구축해 여전히 지속 가능한 디자인을 발표하고 있다. 또한 건축·디자인과 관련한 자료실 및 종합가구 컬렉션 전시회가 개최되는 Vitra Design Museum을 운영하며 가구 디자인 산업의 대중화에도 앞장서고 있다. 이곳을 찾는 방문객들은 가정과 사무실 및 공공장소에서 응용할 수 있는 디자인적 영감을 받고 쉽게 접할 수 없는 Vitra의 다양한 소장품을 관람할 수 있다.

EAMES PLASTIC SIDE CHAIR DSX Design by CHARLES & RAY EAMES

A four-legged tubular steel base and the organically shaped Side Chair shell are the defining components of the visually understated DSX(Dining Height Side Chair X-Base). The seat shell comes in various colours and upholstery options while the base is available in a chrome-plated or powder-coated version, the latter of which can be used in gardens or on terraces.

RESTING BEAR Production design: ROBIN RIZZINI

Numerous works by the creative duo Front are devoted to the systematic observation of sleeping or hibernating animals. This fascination inspired their design of a group of slumbering creatures – Resting Animals – whose poses exude a serene tranquillity. The largest is a knit-covered bear that can be used for a variety of functions, such as a stool, ottoman or backrest.

RESTING RESTING ANIMALS

'Resting Animals'는 인간과 사물 사이의 밀접한 연관성에 초점을 맞춘 디자이너 듀오 Front의 연구 프로젝트다. 디자이너는 무작위로 선정된 사람들에게 그들의 삶에서 가장 감정적으로 풍부하고 의미 있는 대상을 찾아달라고 부탁했다. 놀랍게도 대다수의 답변은 동물이었다. Front는 다양한 동물들이 어떻게 잠을 자거나 동면하는지에 대한 체계적인 관찰에 전념해왔다.

VLINDER SOFA, LIGHT REDS Location: BERGAMO, ITALY

Vitra’s Vlinder sofa is adorned with captivating woven patterns and unique textures created by Hella Jongerius, a Dutch textile designer and Vitra’s Art Director for colours and materials. A master of modern weaving technologies and colour design, Jongerius designed the abstract woven pattern of the Vlinder sofa using eight different colours, seven jacquard weaves and two thicknesses of yarn.

THE VITRA DESIGN MUSEUM Creator: LORENZ CUGINI

The furniture manufacturer Vitra has had a production site in Weil am Rhein since the early 1950s. In addition to manufacturing and administration buildings, the company has also had buildings erected here that are primarily used for cultural purposes.

CHAISE TOUT BOIS Design by JEAN PROUVÉ

Chaise Tout Bois is the only chair by the French ‘constructeur’ and designer Jean Prouvé that is made entirely out of wood. The design is very similar to Prouvé’s famous Standard chair, but wood was substituted for the metal base due to the scarcity of metal during the Second World War.
