Completed in October last year, the 250-meter T1 Tower and the observation deck, CXCC Summit 58, spanning levels 55 to 58, rise within the Pacific Xintiandi complex in Shanghai’s Huangpu District. The client, Shanghai Ruiyongjing Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., defined “carbon neutrality by 2060” as the project’s core theme, calling for a spatial narrative that connects the site’s past, present, and future through visitor circulation. Designed by Yu Ting of Wutopia Lab, the project interprets carbon neutrality through a glaciological lens, shaping the tower as a singular iceberg. The outdoor deck on level 57 references drifting sea ice, while the ascent to the helipad on level 58 suggests the iceberg emerging above water. Indoor spaces on levels 55 and 56 are conceived as the iceberg’s submerged interior, evoking cavernous spaces beneath the surface.
 
지난해 10월, 중국 상하이시 황푸구(黄浦区) 퍼시픽 신천지 단지에 높이 250m T1 타워와 타워 55~58층에 전망대 'CXCC Summit 58'이 준공되었다. 이번 프로젝트의 클라이언트인 상하이 루이용징 부동산 개발유한공사는 '2060년 탄소중립'을 핵심 주제로 설정하고, 지역의 과거·현재·미래를 전망대의 동선 속에 엮어낼 것을 요구했다. 설계는 우토피아랩(Wutopia Lab)의 수석 건축가 유팅(Yu Ting)이 맡아, 탄소중립을 빙하학적 관점으로 읽고 전체 구조를 하나의 빙산으로 디자인했다. 57층 야외 전망대는 바다 위 유빙을, 57층 기계실에서 58층 헬기 플랫폼까지는 바다 위로 드러난 빙산 일부를 상징한다. 55~56층의 실내 공간은 수면 아래 빙산처럼 설계되어 빙산 내부 동굴처럼 느껴지도록 연출되었다.

Using a sequence of white arches, the architect shapes Level 56—dominated by smaller rooms—into a continuous iceberg-like cavern, while Level 55 introduces a double-height observation café and convention hall to enrich the spatial composition. To prevent monotony, building systems such as lighting, sprinklers, speakers, and ventilation are integrated into a single pattern through computational patterning.

 

건축가는 연속된 흰색 아치 구조를 활용해, 소규모 공간이 주를 이루는 56층을 하나의 연속적인 빙산 동굴로 구성했다. 55층에는 복층 높이의 전망 카페와 컨벤션 홀이 배치되어 공간적 구성을 풍요롭게 했다. 56에서 반복되는 흰색 아치형 볼트가 자칫 단조로워질 수 있다는 점을 고려해, 건축가는 스피커, 카메라, 스프링클러, 조명, 환기구 등 각종 설비를 컴퓨테이셔널 패터닝(computational patterning) 기법으로 하나의 패턴 안에 통합했다.
